For a move to be successful and trouble-free, it has to be planned right down to the last detail.
At County Removals Ltd we ensure that your move goes through like a dream. However, there are many things that you can do to help us help you. Our handy checklist covers major areas requiring your attention in the days and weeks leading up to your move.
UP TO 2-4 weeks AHEAD
- Confirm dates with your mover. Sign and return your acceptance
- Remember to inform the following people:
- Gas / Electric / Water / BT / Sky / ISP
- Banks / Building societies / Credit Card companies
- Council / Electoral Register
- Insurances / Solicitors
- Schools / Subscriptions / Clubs
- Doctors / Dentists / Opticians
- Employers
- DVLA
- Breakdown Service
- Royal Mail
- Family and Friends
UP TO 1 WEEK AHEAD
- If you have not already done so send remittance for your removal.
- Begin to dispose of any items you no longer want.
- Pack any items you have agreed with the mover to do.
- Arrange for qualified people to disconnect and reconnect your gas and electric appliances.
- Give some thought to parking arrangements for both your collection and delivery addresses.
just before your move
- Cancel the milk.
- Remove all food from the freezer and defrost. Disconnect washing machine and dish washer and, where possible, drain fully.
- Arrange for someone to look after the children and pets on moving day.
- Sort out and put all essentials / legal documents / keys etc in a separate area and mark "Not for Moving". It is recommended you also transport these items yourself
- Remove your fixtures and fittings from walls.
- Give thought to where you want your furniture in your new house.
- Arrange for access to new property at agreed time.
The Moving Day
- Don’t panic!!
- Take the removal men round your house explaining any concerns you may have and show any items not to be moved
- Once they have finished, walk through the house with the men once again to ensure everything has been taken that should have been and nothing has been taken in error. You should also check all of your cupboards at this stage.
